MSI GP68 Review – MSI has released their new gaming laptop, the GP68. This laptop has a strong finish that appears pretty nice. Gaming allows you to multitask and code while also editing in 4K. This laptop’s price is currently at an all-time low, and it is also one of the most affordable RTX4080s. So, before you buy, read this post. In this piece, I’ll go over the MSI GP68 and its specifications.
MSI GP68 Design
Another solidly constructed MSI laptop is the GP68. Even when exerting considerable effort to the keyboard and lid, there is not much flex because of the strong gray metal lid and metal interior, which give the device a premium feel. The hinges provide stability and the one-finger opening is surprisingly simple to use, limiting screen motions during typing frenzy.
Though slightly thicker than most 16-inch gaming laptops, the GP68 accommodates the potent RTX 4080 with ample cooling capacity. However, with the bulky 330-watt power adaptor, portability is compromised. Even though they may cost more, thinner GaN chargers can offer a more practical travel choice.
MSI GP68 Display
The screen of the GP68 is where its flaw lies. The FHD+ screen, which comes in two sizes—10 2560 by 1600 240Hz or 1920 by 1200 144Hz—is disappointing for a high-end RTX 4080. Gamers can find this unsatisfactory, especially in the fast-paced games of today.
MSI GP68 Battery
The GP68 has a 4-cell, 90Wh battery that is managed by battery performance modes using MSI Center software. When the screen is not plugged in, the Display Power Saver option automatically lowers the refresh rate of the screen to conserve power. When YouTube videos are played again, the battery life is sufficient, lasting around 5.5 hours.
MSI GP68 Performance
The GP68’s speed is unaffected by the last-generation CPU it uses. Unusual in less priced models, the keyboard’s per-key RGB illumination adds a little amount of customization. The keys feel nice and clicky, especially the tactile WASD keys. Though it is haptic and smooth, the touchpad does not have clickable corners.
MSI GP68 Ports & Connectivity
The laptop has a 3.5mm audio combination connector, Type-C Thunderbolt 4, and an SD card slot on the left, and USB Type-A ports (Gen 1 and Gen 2) on the right. Although the fantastic 2.5-gigabit Ethernet connector is located on the back, customers may not find this to be the optimal location for their needs.
MSI GP68 Thermal & Cooling
For the GP68, effective thermal control is provided via three heat pipes and two fans. Users can select between different modes of operation, including severe settings requiring cooler boost, with the MSI Center program. Despite this, the laptop gains an external cooling pad throughout the stress testing, even though the internal temperatures remain unchanged.
MSI GP68 Configuration
Thirteen Phillips-head screws must be removed in order to access the GP68, which reveals a sophisticated internal arrangement. The laptop includes an upgradeable design that allows for the addition of a Wi-Fi 6E card, M.2 slots, and RAM slots. The overall upgradeability score is discouraged by the ease of access to these components, even with upgrades.
MSI GP68 Price and Gaming Performance
The GP68’s strong performance is evident in gaming, as it yields outstanding results across a variety of titles. However, the RTX 4080’s full potential is limited by its 1920 by 1200 screen size. You may compare this laptop, which costs $1700, to other laptops in the market that fall into the same price bracket.
