What is Acne? Is Acne a Disease?

Acne, also known as acne vulgaris, is a long-term skin disease that occurs when hair follicles are clogged with dead skin cells and oil from the skin. It is characterized by blackheads or whiteheads, pimples, oily skin, and possible scarring.

It primarily affects areas of the skin with a relatively high number of oil glands, including the face, upper part of the chest, and back.

Dr Akash Bhyana says the victim of this disease is youth who bearing an age of 13 to 23/24 year-old. This skin disease is caused by an excess of sebum, the oily substance produced by glands found at the base of hair follicles. When these glands produce too much sebum, the follicles become plugged with dead skin cells, debris, and P. acnes bacteria, resulting in pimples and inflammation.

Acne vulgaris isn’t a fun problem to have, but it is treatable. Your doctor can give you a prescription medication that will help. If your acne is fairly mild, you may even be able to get it under control with over-the-counter products.

It’s also important to stick to a regular skin care regimen. Acne isn’t caused by a lack of cleansing or bad hygiene, but good daily skin care is always helpful.
